Trunk Sewers vs Sanitary Sewers
The CSMD maintains sanitary, or collection sewers that most resident and commercial lateral lines drain into. They typically have a diameter of 8″ and are usually constructed of vitrified clay pipe.
Trunk sewers are much larger, constructed of reinforced concrete, and carry sewage from sanitary sewer outflows to waste water reclamation plants. GIS data representing trunk sewers should be obtained from the agencies who maintain them:
- The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District maintains trunk sewers in and near Agoura Hills and Calabasas.
- The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County maintain most areas within Los Angeles County outside the City of Los Angeles.
